Your Child's First Dental Visit

Your child’s first dental visit is as important for you as it is for them. This early childhood dental appointment will help familiarise your child with our clinic and team. We make this appointment fun, interactive and educational. Children are naturally curious and love to learn about their teeth and how to take care of them.

First visits present us with time to answer parents’ questions and to talk about what to expect as your child’s teeth and jaw develop. We are always happy to discuss other important topics such as:

Our comprehensive preventive approach to paediatric dentistry helps parents avoid many of the common oral conditions that children are more susceptible to. Decay, an entirely preventable disease, is one of the most common.

In addition to regular home care that includes brushing, flossing and professional dental cleanings, we offer extra protection against the bacteria that cause decay.

• Fluoride application – Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens enamel and supports remineralisation. Routine fluoride applications are safe and beneficial for preventing cavities that put your little one’s smile at risk.
• Dental Sealants – Dental sealants are a barrier method to prevent bacteria from breaching the protective enamel of the teeth. We simply paint them into the deep grooves of children’s molars – one of the most common locations for decay to develop.

• Paediatric dental exams – At your child’s routine exam, Dr Brendan Quill will evaluate each tooth, the gum tissue, and your child’s development. If early childhood orthodontics is necessary, we will share the treatment options with parents.
• Professional clean and polish – Even if you are diligent when brushing and flossing for your child, tartar can still collect between teeth and just below the gums, which may lead to decay or gum disease. A regular cleaning and polish removes this tartar and gives your child a fresh start.
• X-rays for diagnosis – As your child grows, we will recommend routine dental x-rays to diagnose decay and other conditions. Our treatment recommendations are personalised and based on your little one’s needs.
